- After representing people in private practice for nearly 35 years, the Court of Appeals provides me the opportunity to return the benefits the North Carolina has afforded me. My life experiences, as well as my years of professional practice, help give me a fuller understanding of the competing interests which judges must resolve. Every person who comes before the court should be treated fairly and with respect. Judges should be open minded and not let their personal preferences influence their decisions. They should not have a private agenda. Every case should be decided on its merits alone. I am native North Carolinian, educated in North Carolina and I have lived in our state all my professional life. I am married to Susan Awbrey Hunter and between us we have three children, and one grandson, all of whom live in North Carolina.
